Third Bishop of Châlons and Confessor
Third Bishop of Châlons in the 2nd century and successor to Donatien, Domitien was a pastor recognized for his gentleness, wisdom, and piety. A great builder of churches, he completed the conversion of the local people before dying on August 9th (the fifth of the Ides). His relics have rested in the Cathedral of Châlons since their elevation in 1341.

Origins and episcopal succession

The sincerity and fullness of the law were in his heart, truth and all the charms of gentleness in his mouth. All those who turned to him in their needs admired his wisdom and the penetration of his mind. Equity and justice appeared in all his actions. The purity and innocence of his life shone even in his conversations. He had grace, and performed his duties with great gravity. He showed particular affection, and granted ecclesiastical dignities to the clerics in whom he noticed the most piety. One did not see in his house seats adorned with sumptuous carpets, but he always had before his eyes the throne he was to occupy in eternal life. This great doctor, this famous preacher, had many churches built, ordained priests, and finished winning all the people to Jesus Christ. His blessed soul departed from the prison of his body on the fifth of the ides of August.
Translation of the relics
In 1341, the remains of Domitian were exhumed along with those of his predecessor Donatian to be placed in a reliquary in the cathedral.
