Foundation and origins of the abbey
The abbey of Benoite-Vaux, initially named Faverolles, was founded around 1140 by the Bishop of Verdun and local lords in the heart of the Meuse region.

Miracles and religious life
The site is renowned for its miraculous fountain and is served by the Congregation of Our Savior, also serving as a retirement home for the clergy.

Pilgrimages and the impact of the 1870 war
Despite the invasion of 1870, the sanctuary was preserved and experienced a resurgence of popular fervor, particularly during the feast of September 8.
It is particularly on September 8 that pilgrims flock to Benoite-Vaux; processions from all the surrounding regions have traveled there in every era, and these Catholic demonstrations continue to this day.
The foreign invasion of 187 0-1871 impoverished the religious L'invasion étrangère de 1870-1871 Franco-Prussian conflict that impacted the region. of Benoite-Vaux; but the insatiable greed of the enemy went no further: the chapel was neither looted nor profaned. In the aftermath of the peace, the people of the Meuse flocked with gratitude to their venerated Madonna and asked her for better days for France; the months of May, June, July, August, and September 1871 saw a prodigious gathering of pilgrims.
