Meeting and eremitic life

After the death of Saint Domice, Auree joined Saint Ulphe in her solitude at Boves and shared her life of prayer, accompanying her each night to the cathedral of Amiens.

Saint Ulphe had just lost Saint Domice, who had served her for so long as a spiritual guide in the solitude she had chosen for herself at Boves. Her isolation, which inspired in her rightful alarms, was to last only a day. The day after the burial of Domice in his hermitage, Saint Ulphe, according to her custom, went to the Matins of the cathedral, which were sung around midnight. She met in its vicinity a young girl, named Auree, who had Aurée Superior of the nuns of Amiens and disciple of Saint Ulpha. recognized the holy recluse by the radiance that shone from her face in the midst of the darkness of the night. The young woman from Amiens threw herself at the feet of Saint Ulphe, expressed to her her aversion for the world, her taste for solitude, and begged her to accept her as a companion and as a daughter. Such a proposal could only be accepted with joy. Auree therefore shared the eremitic life of the recluse of Boves, and, each night, she accompanied her to the Matins of the cathedral.

Foundation of the convent of Amiens

Faced with an influx of new vocations, Saint Ulphe founded a convent in Amiens to protect the nuns, entrusting its direction to Auree.

This example was to bear fruit. Several young girls from Amiens wished to consecrate their virginity to God and thus draw upon themselves the strengthening graces that are the share of a life in community. Saint Ulphe favorably received their request; but, fearing with reason the dangers that could surround these young girls in a solitude as complete as her hermitage was then, she obtained from the authorities of Amiens the foundation of a convent in an orchard located near the Castillon: it is to this establishment that the Rue des Vergers owes its name.

Saint Ulphe, after having installed the nascent community in this convent, entrusted its direction to Auree and retur Aurée Superior of the nuns of Amiens and disciple of Saint Ulpha. ned to the solitude that was so dear to her; but she often visited her daughters and, each day, she took a few of them with her to guide them in the path of perfection.
