Founder of the Congregation of Christian Doctrine in Italy
A silk weaver in Florence, Hippolytus Galantini dedicated his life to the religious instruction of children and the uneducated. He founded the Congregation of Christian Doctrine, which spread rapidly throughout Italy. Known for his zeal and gift of prophecy, he was beatified in 1825.

Youth and early commitments
Hippolytus Galantini was born in Florence in 1565 and distinguished himself from childhood by his piety, being entrusted with teaching religion from the age of twelve.

Hippolytus's zeal had many imitators throughout Italy, and, in a few years, a multitude of congregations were establish ed there under the name of the Ordre de la Doctrine chrétienne Organization founded for the religious instruction of the faithful.
