Born in Majorca in 1236, Ramon Llull was a prolific scholar known as the Doctor Illuminatus before converting and joining the Third Order of Saint Francis. He dedicated his life to the study and evangelization of Muslim populations in North Africa. He died a martyr, stoned in Bougie in 1315.

Missions and martyrdom
A missionary in North Africa, he died by stoning in Bougie in 1315 for his Christian faith.
He undertook several missions in Africa to proclaim the Gospel to the infidels of the Barbary Coast, whose language he knew and among whom he brought about numerous conversions. He was stoned in Mauritania, in Bougie, out of hatred for the religion he preached, on March 29, 1315, at the age of seventy-nine. He is honored as a martyr on the island of Majo île de Majorque Primary location of his ministry as a doorkeeper. rca, his homeland, where his body was transported.
