Born in Erclie and educated in Laon, Ermin became a monk and later the successor to Saint Ursmar at the Abbey of Lobbes. Raised to the episcopate without a fixed jurisdiction, he evangelized neighboring regions as a regionary bishop. He died in 737, leaving the memory of a humble and austere man.

Origins and priestly formation

Ermin was born in Erclie in the Laon region and distinguished himself by his piety before being ordained a priest by Bishop Madalgaire.

When the holy Abbot saw that he had reached a very advanced age, knowing how apt Ermin was for the government of souls, he designated him as his successor, to the satisfaction of everyone. While he worthily sustained the burden of this office, he received the episcopal character, like Ursmar, and after him all the abbots of Lobbes; but he obtained no precise jurisdiction, and he carried the light of the Gospel to the surrounding peoples: he was a regionary bishop. After numerous labors undertaken and accomplished for the glory of God, he went to receive his reward on April 25 of the year 737. His memory is the object of special veneration in the village of Erclie, which has taken the na me of Sain Saint-Erme Birthplace of the saint, which became the town of Saint-Erme. t-Erme, and which honors itself greatly with his patronage.
