Persecutions and the miracle of Chersi

A victim of slander and violence, notably from the governor's wife, the saint retired to Chersi where he converted his would-be assassins.

The fury of the persecutors eventually discovered the place of his retreat. As he was accustomed to preaching the Gospel to all who came to him, among the crowd of those who came to hear him, his enemies sent hired assassins to strike him down. But the word of the holy Apostle suddenly touched these men, who fell at his feet, confessed their guilty plan, and begged for his forgiveness. He even gave them Baptism some time later, once he had instructed them. He returned to the city of Séez when the slanders raised against him were destroyed and peace was restored to him. He found himself obliged to leave it once again; he ardently desired martyrdom, and often cried out: 'O good Jesus! Who will grant me to die for you?' But he felt that his work still needed him, and that is why he fled before the persecution.

Organization of the diocese and Marian devotion

Upon returning to Séez, he consecrated his cathedral to Our Lady and ordained priests to spread the faith and Marian devotion throughout the region.

The holy bishop, in consecrating his church and cathedral under the title of Our Lady, was not content with preaching the love of Mary himself; he ordained several priests who, animated by his spirit, went throughout the region to make Jesus Christ and Mary known and loved, and to teach the people that the worship of the one is inseparable from the worship of the other.
