Origins and entry into religious life
Born in 1280 to peasant parents, Gerard entered the monastery of Santa Croce at the age of nine.

Priestly ministry and trials
Having become a priest, he administered several parishes and faced the hostility of envious people before manifesting his holiness through miracles.
Raised to the priesthood, he applied himself with ardor to acquiring monastic perfection. His superiors conferred upon him the administration of a parish where he gave numerous examples of piety and charity. Pursued by envious people, he was forced to leave it, and he subsequently served two others. He then returned to the first, where his holiness was manifested through several miracles.
Miracles and end of life
He performed wonders to feed the poor and protect a city before passing away in 1367.
This servant of God multiplied bread to feed the poor of a city near his residence, and put to flight, through his prayers, the enemies who were besieging that city. He died on November 18, 1367; and he is honored on April 1 in the Camaldolese Order.
