Saint Walbert and Saint Bertille
Confessors
Saint Walbert, a Frankish nobleman and warrior at court, and his wife Princess Bertille lived in the 7th century in the Diocese of Cambrai. Parents of Saints Waudru and Aldegonde, they are honored for their conjugal piety and immense charity toward the poor. Their remains rest in Cousolre, the site of a traditional annual pilgrimage.

The public life of Walbert
Walbert, a Frankish nobleman and warrior at court, distinguished himself by his virtue, his simplicity, and his great compassion for the poor.

Walbert marries Princess Bertille; together, they lead a life of fervor and charity, becoming the parents of Saints Waltrude and Aldegund.

These names, so popular and so venerated, will always be their finest eulogy. Let us therefore limit ourselves to recalling here these few lines from an ancient hagiographer: "Walbert and Bertille were both filled with an admirable fervor; they made themselves holily illustrious by the abundance of their alms and their devotion to all good works. Thus, in the bonds of conjugal life, they led a spiritual and entirely heavenly life."
Cult and burial at Cousolre
After their death, their remains were deposited at Cousolre, becoming an important place of pilgrimage for the diocese of Cambrai.

The chapel where the bodies of the two spouses were enclosed bore the name of Saint Walbert; Mass was said there in his honor, and each year, on the day after Pentecost, many pilgrims came to Cousolre with their pastors and their banners, to pay their respects to these patron saints.
