A senator of Auvergne born in the 4th century, Venerandus became Bishop of Clermont and was one of the illustrious figures of the Church of France in his time. He died in 423 and was buried at the monastery of Saint-Allyre, where many miracles were reported through his intercession.

Origins and Episcopate
Venerandus, hailing from the senatorial nobility of Auvergne, succeeded Saint Artemius on the episcopal see of the province.
