The sixth Bishop of Langres in the 4th century, Urban was an accomplished prelate who restored religious fervor and the buildings of his diocese. Renowned for his miracles over the elements, he became the patron saint protecting vintners. He died in 375 and was buried in Dijon according to his wishes.

Origins and episcopal election
Urban was born in Calmiers-le-Bas to pious parents and succeeded Honoratus as the sixth bishop of Langres after an exemplary youth.

The gift of miracles added a deserved brilliance to his holiness; not only did he heal the sick through his prayers, but he also cast out demons and commanded the elements. His orisons, indeed, often warded off storms, dissipated hurricanes, and protected the harvests and vineyards against tempest and hail; hence it is that even today he is invoked against bad weather, and it is customary to represent him with a grape.
Death and burial in Dijon
After a long episcopate, he died surrounded by his clergy and was buried in Dijon in the Basilica of Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
